Whoa Nelly!

So for the last week or two we’ve been watching this show on Disney+ called Renegade Nell:

Basically the premise is that the aforementioned Nell gains superhuman strength and reflexes through the assistance of a fairy named Billy Blind. (Note that in folklore Billy Blind is actually a thing, although it doesn’t seem like he actually grants superhuman strength and reflexes; he just gives advice. He does this in the show as well*.) Over the course of the show … Oh, wait, hang on a second:

Okay, where was I? Oh, right. Over the course of the show, Nell ends up tangling several times with what appears to be a necromancer (more or less) as well as with the necromancer’s new apprentice, who, because reasons**, has got it in for her and her family. At one point the two wizards engage in a joint bit of spellcasting in an attempt to trap Nell forever inside of Newgate Prison, or something—I wasn’t entirely clear on what this spell was supposed to do, except that it was Bad Juju—and so we were treated to the two of them chanting away in Latin while Nell is frantically trying to free a bunch of children who have been locked up for being poor, basically. Now of course we had the subtitles on, because we always have the subtitles on, and thus we were able to read the shocking translation of the chant the necromancers were doing. Brace yourselves everyone.

Wait, what was that now?

Say what?!***

“Come, blind furry?!”

Probably not what Disney had in mind.

First blind furries, and then Deadpool & Wolverine?!

What’s next, Disney? A scatological remake of The Black Hole?

BTW, as a side note, be careful when doing an image search for “blind furry”****. Be very, very careful.

* Which is usually good and routinely ignored.
** Blah blah blah Jacobites blah blah
*** Obviously this is supposed to be “blind fury” but what fun would that be?
**** Or for anything furry-related, really.

  1. Blind Furry? That’s one hell of a scary chant. I love finding boo boos on subtitles. I’ve got one I took a screenshot of that a hospital did about a procedure. Instead of ‘Warfarin” they put “Wolverine”. I bloody loved it!

Can’t say I’m interested in Nelly. I’ve seen it, and a lot of Star Wars, come up on the advertisement when you log in. I’m actually just watching Firefly and I love it; the age and cheesy acting make it all the better. Have you seen it? Also thought I’d check out Only Murders In The Building for something a little lighter. I managed to finish NYPD Blue, which took some doing given that I watch 10 minute slots of TV these days. I’m nothing if not devoted.

    1. Oh, yeah, Firefly was great! The interesting thing is I saw the movie sequel Serenity before watching the show and so I had no real idea what was going on with it, but it all fell into place when I went back and watched the show. Then I watched Serenity again and it made more sense lol.

We started Only Murders in the Building but it didn’t really snag my wife’s attention, and then we picked up Reservation Dogs which caught her right away. Only two episodes left of that though and then we’ll need to find something else …

      1. Only Murders In The Building isn’t my usual thing at all but I must admit, it’s oddly watchable when you need something easy. I’m only watching it for my mum so she can have a little much-needed light entertainment, and the more slap-stick humour and odd rudeness makes her laugh, which in turn makes me laugh! We also watched Feud recently, both seasons. The cast and acting were brilliant.

I really liked Boston Legal on Disney. Another older one again but you can’t beat a bit of Shatner and Spader.

Welcome To The Chippendales is also on Disney in case your wife might enjoy that 😉 I’ve not seen it but I’m hoping for a lot of nudity if I ever get to it.
