Spamcommentology: ‘Cuz It’s Witchcraft

Not long ago I got a couple of very similar spam comments over at the animals’ blog, both of them on an old post from when it was Dennis’s blog, from some happy lottery winners who just want to share their good fortune, yup.

Exhibit A: The Lucky Crab Fisherman

Yeah, finding it “difficult to win” the lottery is the whole point of the lottery. Otherwise they wouldn’t do it.
Yeah, because when you win $61 million pounds, the first thing you want to do is TELL THE ENTIRE WORLD ABOUT IT. Because surely nobody’s going to try to scam you out of it or anything.

I just have a couple notes.

  • Everybody has to provide “requirements” to get the lottery spell cast. I’m guessing the “requirements” are … money?
  • A God on Earth has a Hotmail address??? (Having a WhatsApp account is more believable.)
  • Apparently Lord Bubuza’s spells work in both Canada (I looked up the Atlantic Lottery; it is indeed based in Moncton) and in Britain (since the second, ahem, “winners” received their “winnings” in. pounds). No one has yet attested that it’s compatible with American lotteries.

Anyway, these spam messages were pretty clearly triggered by the title of the post, which, in classic Dennis fashion, was “go do that voodoo wot yoo do so wel!!! or wot sumbuddy duz so wel ennyway!!!”; I wouldn’t have guessed there was a spambot out there looking for things with “Voodoo” in the title, but then again, this is the Internet, where anything that can exist does exist, right? If only I had had him spell it “Vodou” then the bot probably would have just passed on by.

  4. Yup, they want you to diverge your own financial numbers to rid you of any dough you might have…yup…NO!
