That Word: I Don’t Think It Was What You Think It Was

So on the Apple TV, there are many apps, one of which of course is the YouTube app. I don’t spend a lot of time watching stuff on YouTube, but when there are a few minutes to kill—say, for instance, I’m waiting for my wife to come and sit down so we can watch House’s minions jab giant needles into people’s spines—I will sometimes call up the YouTube app for a few minutes. Now, I know YouTube has a radicalization problem, whereby its algorithmic recommendation engine tends to push more and more extreme videos based on engagement, but my YouTube experience isn’t like that; for me, the recommendations consist mostly of funny animal videos, people talking about science fiction or fantasy books or shows, various Honest Trailers, a lawyer’s humorous reactions to various legal scenarios both real and fictional, and indie music stuff. Such as this:

The Early Years: Jim Still Can’t Draw, And Apparently Would Also Be The First One To Die In A Shipwreck Involving Zombies

I’ve been doing a lot of “Not a Review” and “Teaser Tuesday” posts lately, and have been neglecting the giant pile of ancient schoolwork that my folks exhumed from their house some years back and passed along to me. Well, this week, I wish to put that right.

See what I did there?

Teaser Tuesday: “Bandwidth”

So recently, I was reading a book called Bandwidth, by Eliot Peper:

Not A Review Of “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”

Not long ago, we watched the second of the “Jurassic World” films, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Am I Blue, am I Blue, yes I’m Blue hoping I’ll get to eat up you.

In Good Company

We recently spotted a Little Free Library at one of the parks we take the dogs to, so upon our next visit, I made a deposit of three of my books: Dragon Stones and both parts of the “Strings” duology, Shards and Ravels. I suppose I could have been a good capitalist and just put in Shards, thus forcing anyone who read it to buy Ravels to resolve the cliffhanger ending, but I’m not a monster.

Teaser Tuesday: “Radiance”

So this week I was reading Radiance, by one of my favorite authors, Catherynne M. Valente:

Still Not A Review Of “House”

So a while back, I mentioned that my wife and I had started watching House on the Peacock streaming service, thus making us one of the like eight people who subscribe to Peacock. Given the fact that House has caught on with my wife*, and the fact that it ran for eight seasons with around 22 episodes a season, we’re going to be watching it into the indefinite future, and now that we’re some ways into it, there have been some further thoughts and commentary on the subject. For instance:

Teaser Tuesday: “Robopocalypse”

So this week I was reading Robopocalypse, by Daniel H. Wilson, a book about the aftermath of the impending robot/AI uprising, which maybe you’ve heard people worrying about lately.

🎵 Welcome to the Uncanny Valley, we got humanoids … 🎵

Not A Review Of “Paper Girls”

So recently, having finished off The Sandman, and not really being into House of the Dragon yet, my wife and I watched the show Paper Girls on Amazon prime, all 8 episodes over the course of a couple of weeks (which is a pretty fast binge for us):

Another Change of Scene(ry)

So not long ago, I mentioned that I had decided to rework my morning schedule (doesn’t everyone have a morning schedule?) to do writing stuff on the weekends and blogging stuff on the weekdays. That kinda sorta worked, in that I did get some (though not enough) writing done on weekends, and I did manage to (almost) keep up with the blog posting and with the visiting; but overall, it wasn’t really working out all that well, at least for the writing part. What I really needed was for the day to be a little longer. And so I built this device to slow down the Earth’s rotation and … Oh, wait, I’m being told the device is not ready yet. Scratch that. What I actually did was start getting up a half-hour earlier. More coffee, anyone?
