So a few weeks back I posted the Sunshine Blogger award from Experience Film (which tiny ninja Oona didn’t steal this time), and that inspired another blogger, Midna from Beyond the Twilight, to create and award a completely new tag, the Spreading Light challenge. Check it out:
Now, since this is Midna’s own award, that means Midna gets to make up the rules, which are … right up my alley, actually, because they’re basically non-rule rules:
Seeing people like Sushmita Chakraborty take the Sunshine Blogger Award and use not just as a game or award, but as a way to connect, care, and uplift each other, was really inspiring.
That is the purpose of Spreading Light. No questions to answer, no limit to how many you can tag. And no official logo (although you are more than welcome to use my image if you want). Just write something that says, “I see you, I care for you, and I am here to support you”. Whether it’s a poem or an inspiring image, go for it.
Well, I have only ever written two or three poems1, and neither am I noted for posting inspiring images2. However, I do enjoy quite the variety of music, and I immediately thought of the Sam Phillips3 song “Reflecting Light” for this. And lo! Upon looking for the video for said song, I discovered that it had (apparently quite famously) been used in the show Gilmore Girls during a wedding scene between a couple of characters, one of whom I happen to know by cultural osmosis is the Gilmore Girl mom, and the other is somebody named Luke. But not that Luke. Anyway, it seems that Gilmore Girls was the kind of show that would inspire people to make mash-up videos of scenes from it, as this fan did for “Reflecting Light”; and therefore I present my entry for the tag: Sam Phillips, the Gilmore Girls, and lots and lots and lots of twinkly lights:
And yes, in case you were wondering, this song is a really nice waltz …
- I do in fact have a favorite poem, it’s, uh, not appropriate for this particular theme. ↩︎
- Hence the snarky/amusing/ironic captions I have been applying to all those old pictures I’ve been posting lately. ↩︎
- My #8 artist of all time according to Last.fm, for those who (like me) keep track of such things. ↩︎

This is such a warm and heartfelt post, filled with sincerity, humor, and genuine human connection. I especially love how the idea of “Spreading Light” is expressed not through grand gestures, but through music, memories, and shared appreciation. The playful tone mixed with kindness makes the piece feel wonderfully authentic.
