It’s 1993 and Batman is a long way from Gotham City.

Note: This was the chairlift to get to the top of a sadly-defunct alpine slide in central New York ― one of the few things my wife was actually willing to be suspended in mid-air for.

  1. There’s something wonderfully nostalgic and human about this note 😊
It captures not just a place, but a shared memory — the mix of adventure, hesitation, trust, and affection that often lives inside small moments like these.

  2. My ex and I once went to a mountaintop theme park in Maggie Valley, NC, called Ghost Town in the Sky. The ski lift reminded me of it. It had a great rollercoaster that just went over the side of the mountain instead of needing a big hill to climb first. Recently, I saw it on one of those abandoned theme park shows. Time marches over us.

    1. I’ve seen a few of those abandoned theme parks and find them cool and super creepy, although that could just be because of all the time I’ve spent in such places playing the “Silent Hill” survival horror games …

  3. That reminded me of when my sister and I were in Vancouver, BC, and wanted to take a lift to the top of Grouse Mountain…but she fell off the chair even before we started to get lifted! OUCH! She was more or less OK, but not her pride…

We had to tell the lift operator to please STOP the lift so us old women could get on in safety, LOL!

    1. Ha, yeah, these days she won’t even go on a chair lift or cable car at all, really. When we visited Mt. San Jacinto some years back she stayed at the bottom with my mom while my dad, my aunt, and I took the Aerial Tramway up to the top to check out the views and play in the snow a little!

    1. I have about 30 scheduled and about 50 more pictures that I tagged for this while I was scanning old slides and prints. 😁 After that I’ll have to come up with a new schtick since the writing thing seems to have been pretty well derailed by The Event …
