New York isn’t all skyscrapers…

During our honeymoon in the Adirondacks we met a couple from Minnesota, I think it was, who were marveling about that very fact!

I don’t know if I have ever seen Fourth Lake from that vantage point, but you brought back many memories of family vacations there.

The top of Bald (or Rondaxe) Mountain was pretty much our favorite haunt back in the day. That’s one reason I stole it for Television Man, although I renamed it “Cranberry Mountain” … 😁

That’s a beautiful view any time of year, but of course, I immediately wonder how spectacular that is in Autumn.

Oh Autumn is definitely the time to go up there!

James, I think WordPress once again is placing my comments in limbo on certain sites. I believe I left a comment here which hasn’t appeared yet. Just wanted to give you a heads-up in the event it is stuck elsewhere! Been on WP since 2009 and this never happened to me until 11 months ago…and now, of course. Sigh.

Yep, you’re right, they were in spam! A lot of longtime commenters both here and at the animals’ blog have been ending up in spam lately. WP seems to be having a little trouble striking a balance between “all comments are fine” and “all comments are junk” …

My first thought when I saw your beautiful photo was “Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog” by David Caspar Friedrich. 🙂

It is indeed Fourth Lake, part of the Fulton Chain in the Adirondacks of New York, as seen from Bald/Rondaxe Mountain near Old Forge and Inlet. (The deal with the name of the mountain is, if I remember correctly, that there’s another mountain in New York that’s also called Bald Mountain, and somebody decided that was ambiguous so they renamed this one Rondaxe Mountain. But literally no one calls it that outside official documents.)

The intrepid explorer, with the world at his feet. If I discovered lakes and lands, they’d have very different names today. Mostly rude and comical ones.

That sounds more fun than the actual names of the Fulton Chain lakes ― Old Forge Pond (usually not actually included in the chain) and then First through Eighth. But at least you know what order you’re supposed to go in!

That is very practical. I’d make a concession and name them with swear words in alphabetical order.
