Not a Review of the Trailer for “Blonde”

So if you’ve got Netflix, you no doubt have seen, at some point in the last several months, the trailer for Blonde, a film based on the Joyce Carol Oates novel of the same name. We saw it too.

The film, of course, stars Ana de Armas as Marilyn. Now, I did like Ana de Armas in Knives Out, and No Time to Die would’ve been a better movie if it had just ditched Bond and followed her character of Paloma instead:

However, my wife had some very immediate thoughts on the matter of casting.

Wife: “What’s this?”
Me: “This is a trailer for Blonde, a fictionalized biopic about Marilyn Monroe. It’s based on—”
Wife: “She’s supposed to be Marilyn Monroe?”
Me: “Yes. That’s Ana de Armas. She—”
Wife: “She doesn’t look anything like Marilyn Monroe.”
Me: “I’ve heard she does a really good job in the part.”
Wife: “She’s too skinny. Marilyn Monroe should be voluptuous. She’s supposed to be the most beautiful Hollywood star of all time and they couldn’t find anyone close to her body type?”
Me: “Uh—”
Wife: “This is just reinforcing that women have to be sticks these days. It’s sad.”

Seems like my wife is not the only person who thought that …

So did we watch this movie? What do you think? But at least it seems like we may not have missed very much …

Sounds like it must be pretty terrible, doesn’t it? But, ehhh, I would probably still like it …
