The Early Years: “Win! Win! Win! Win!!!!!!!”

When I was little, I watched a lot of cartoons. (I’m sure you’re all astonished.) One of my favorites from when I was around seven years old was “Wacky Races” (in reruns — I’m not THAT old). “Wacky Races” was of course inspired by the film “The Great Race”, which is similar to the other film “It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World”, which is very much like “The Gumball Rally”, which directly leads to “The Cannonball Run”, which is largely responsible both for the collapse of the Soviet Union and the decline and fall of Western civilization. But I digress.

Anyway, I had clearly just finished up a “Wacky Races” marathon when I banged out this little gem:

WIN!WIN! a

WIN!WIN! b

Again with the red ink. I probably cost my grandparents a fortune in ribbons …

In case anyone is interested, my favorite car in “Wacky Races” was The Bulletproof Bomb, driven by the Ant Hill Mob. I’m pretty sure this is because their car (#7) was the same as my age at the time; possibly it was also because the leader of the Mob, Clyde, reminded me of the funny little gangster (Rocky) who appeared in a few Bugs Bunny cartoons, most notably (as far as I’m concerned, anyway) “Bugs and Thugs”.

  1. I had forgotten all about that cartoon! I loved it too and really liked Penelope Pitstop and the cavemen and their car. You were so smart and creative even as a child…Chick N. Soope, Charlie U. Stinc…hehehe.
