Not A Review Of “Gotham”

So not long ago, I discovered that the first season of “Gotham” is on Netflix.  I discovered this because, unsurprisingly, Netflix put it on my “Recommended” list.

Gotham

Now because it’s well-known that I am not very picky about movies (except for sometimes), you might think that my “Recommended” list might consist of just about everything Netflix has available. You would not be wrong. That doesn’t mean I watch everything Netflix recommends, because who has time for that? But I did start watching this. It kicked right off with Selina Kyle scampering along some rooftops, prompting this exchange with my wife:

Wife: “What’s this?”
Me: “This is ‘Gotham’.”
Wife: “Is that Spider-Woman or something?”
Me: “No, I’m pretty sure that’s Catwoman.”
Wife: “Oh.” (pause) “Is there a Spider-Woman?”
Me: “Yes, actually, there is, but she’s Marvel, and this is D.C., so you won’t be seeing her in this.”
Wife’s eyes glaze over almost audibly

Anyway I haven’t gotten very far in “Gotham” yet, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to catch her attention the way “Jessica Jones” or “Breaking Bad” did. But one never knows — maybe she’ll decide she likes Ben McKenzie’s “LA Confidential”-era Russell Crowe appearance and demeanor as Jim Gordon. (Oh come on! You must have noticed it too, right?)
